The Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge began in 1645 when a group of eminent British thinkers started to meet regularly in London to discuss the new, experimental philosophies of science. George William Series (1920-1995). Read mathematics and physics at Oxford University; D. Phil. University Lecturer in Physics 1951; from 1953 to 1968 he was a Tutorial Fellow at St. Edmund Hall (Emeritus Fellow 1969). Professorship of physics at Reading University (1968-1982).
